Inside the perimeter of National Parks and protected areas, sometimes hidden and located at high altitude, arise university botanical orchards, specialized, alpine and ‘widespread’ botanical gardens, where uncommon species of plant are farmed. Among the most extended and meaningful, the Arboretum Taurinense over Maddalena Hill in Torino (45 hectares), the Botanical garden of the University of Torino (more than 2.00 species cultivated), the Oropa Botanical Garden in Biella area, where the namesake Sanctuary is located and the Alpinia Botanical Garden in Stresa, on Lake Maggiore.
