#Piemontestories |Piedmont, the dreamland of snow sports

Body

The thin air and the sun embroidering the white peaks in the blue sky. The polished slopes, the incessant coming and going of the lifts. And then, at sunset, relaxing with an aperitif as a prelude to a perfect evening. Put on your helmet, fasten your boots: the white galaxy of Piedmont is waiting for you. From the Lepontine to the Maritime Alps, a thousand kilometres of slopes and over 50 districts are the joy of skiers and snowboarders. They feature the main districts and the most secluded resorts of the Turin and Cuneo mountains, as well as the Walser valleys around Monte Rosa and the Biella peaks overlooking the plain or the northern lakes. In the Piedmont Alps, spectacular environments offer immersive experiences in nature. Skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering, kite skiing, freeride, fat biking are just some ideas ...

Between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta, the Neveazzurra area includes 16 locations and 9 valleys with infinite possibilities. By clicking here you can discover all the resorts and choose according to your preferences: from the Mottarone Park, the gentle slopes and the stunning natural scenery with a view of seven lakes, to the two districts of Macugnaga, a small pearl lying at the foot of Monte Rosa, up to Domobianca, just 10 kilometres from Domodossola.

In Valsesia, the Alagna ski resort is the entrance to a world made up of 180 km of groomed slopes within Monterosa Ski, one of the largest ski areas in Europe where the exceptional off-track possibilities have awarded the resort the title of “freeride paradise”. The 8-seater cable car connects the town to Pianalunga (2025 m), where the 100-seater Funifor cable car takes you to Passo dei Salati (3030 m) and from here goes to the 3275 meter high Punta Indren glacier. In Scopello Alpe di Mera, you can also visit the Snow Park with box, rails, jibfeature, jump and projump for adrenalin-rush activities. Bielmonte with its large natural balcony over the Po Valley, is a corner of paradise in the Biellese Alps, with 8 km of downhill slopes for both beginners and experts.

The largest area in north-western Italy, the ViaLattea, with about 70 ski lifts and 400 kilometres of slopes, includes names made famous by important competitions and the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics: Sestriere and Pragelato, Cesana-Sansicario, Claviere, Oulx, Sauze d'Oulx and the French Montgenèvre. Not far away, Bardonecchiaski, famous for the Olympic snow park, includes the two areas of Jafferau, with slopes at an average altitude of about 2800 meters and Colomion-Les Arnauds. Already in French territory, you cannot miss Valle Stretta, where you can snowshoe or cross-country ski, or take an unforgettable ski mountaineering trip.

The Cuneo area includes Limone Piemonte, Limonetto and Quota 1400, the stars of Riserva Bianca, the area of the Maritime Alps bordering with France. Over 80 km of slopes and itineraries for lovers of snowshoe and off-piste excursions unfold in the beautiful basin that connects three valleys. In Artesina, Prato Nevoso and Frabosa Soprana, the vast Mondolè Ski area opens up over 130 km of slopes to sport lovers, with freestyle variations in the Prato Nevoso snow park, an oasis of “extreme” snow. In Crissolo, at the foot of the Monviso, ski mountaineering and snowboarding are very popular, Garessio 2000 is known for downhill and ski mountaineering, while Pian Munè, in Paesana, in the Po Valley, is an authentic “white terrace” overlooking the plain, perfect for downhill skiing, ski mountaineering and snowboarding.
