The intense influx of people along the Via Francigena has produced in the Susa Valley during the Middle Ages a circulation and an exchange of knowledge that have contributed to the development of a lively culture of European imprint and international fame identifiable today with the Abbey of Novalesa and Sacra di San Michele, city centres, market positions or mandatory transit and toll points such as Susa, Bussoleno, Avigliana and Oulx. In the section considered, in little more than 16 kilometers, all flat, you cross the villages of Villar Focchiardo, Sant'Antonino di Susa, Vaie, Chiusa di San Michele, S.Ambrogio di Torino to reach Avigliana: a town with a beautiful medieval old town and the two lakes.
